Superintendent's Update: Friday, June 5, 2026

Dear Batavia Families and Community,
We are speeding to the end of another school year, and what a year it has been, culminating in graduation at Van Detta Stadium on Friday, June 26, with a rain date of Saturday, June 27. Early congrats to the Class of 2026!
Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Track and Field Team and their coaches on yet another amazing consecutive Section V Championship! Good luck to those competing in the State Qualifiers tonight at Van Detta. Our Girls Softball team made it to the Sectional Final as well, but lost a heartbreaker in the bottom of the 7th. Finally, congratulations to all our spring athletes, and especially our seniors, who represented BCSD so well—you will be missed!
All of Batavia is invited to a special “watch party” on Monday, June 22, at 7:00 pm at the Frank E. Owen Auditorium at BHS as we cheer on our very own Gus Crawford as he competes in the Jimmy Awards on Broadway in New York City. This is an amazing opportunity for Gus and a first for Batavia. As they say in show business, break a leg, Gus!
Our concert season this spring is in full swing, and we can all celebrate all that is Batavia music. We were recently recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) for the third consecutive year for our outstanding music programming. Bravo and congrats to our teacher and students!
We have several award ceremonies in June, including 8th Grade Moving Up, Academic Awards, and Athletic Awards. We are also inducting new members of the BHS National Honor Society on Monday, June 15.
We are recognizing all of our BCSD retirees on Monday, June 15, at 5:15 in the BHS Library during our June Board of Education meeting. Look for special information and posts about them in the media and our social media feeds. Like our seniors, our retirees will also be dearly missed, but we are so grateful for your many years of service to our community, students, and families!
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not again thank outgoing Board of Education Members Alice Ann Benedict and Barbara Bowman for their years of dedicated service to our District. Board members are volunteers who serve voluntarily for only one reason: they love Batavia and care about us!
I look forward to seeing many of you at our June events!
Sincerely,
Jason Smith
BCSD Superintendent of Schools
